Dorothy Elaine Disrud, age 94, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Glenwood Retirement Village Care Center under the care of hospice with her husband Harry by her side. Her family is especially thankful to all family members who helped her and spent time together as Dorothy was preparing to be away from the body and to be at home with the lord before and during her final days.
Dorothy had the privilege of having a second family through all the caregivers and staff at Parkview Court as well as the care center, both a part of Glenwood Retirement Village. She will be greatly missed but her memory will live on forever in our hearts. A special thank you as well to the hospice staff who helped make her quality of life better while a resident there and who provided bereavement counsel to family after her death.
Dorothy was born and raised in Renville, MN and was the daughter of Perry and Mary (Bremmer) Danielson. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Renville, MN. She attended K-12 at Renville Consolidated School, graduating in the class of 1947. After high school Dorothy attended Minneapolis Business College and took courses in the secretarial/administrative field. She found employment as a secretary in Minneapolis after graduating. This is where she met and dated her future husband, Harry Disrud.
Dorothy and Harry married on November 22, 1958, at First Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN. She kept working until they welcomed two children into their lives. They lived in St. Louis Park where she was an active church member. She kept busy with ceramics, knitting, crocheting and belonged to several clubs. Dorothy was always making a salad, or other food dish for a variety of social functions as well as family get-togethers.
Dorothy and Harry Disrud purchased The Morris Motel in Morris, MN in 1975. Together they operated the motel on and off until November 1993 when they sold it. If she wasn’t helping run the motel, she was working at Willie’s Super Valu. She was a member and officer of the Eagles Auxiliary #620 where she and Harry made friends with other members. She was loyal to many. Dorothy loved gardening plus her family will forever remember and treasure eating the delicious apple pies she baked using the apples from the tree in the backyard.
After they sold the motel Dorothy and Harry moved to Glenwood and retired near Lake Minnewaska. Dorothy was always playing solitaire, knitting, crocheting, or socializing with someone. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter.
At the time of her death Dorothy was survived by her husband of 67 years, Harry Disrud, daughter Nancy (Bill) Brown of Mayer, MN, granddaughter Brittney Brown of Fort Collins, CO, and many of her nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Mary (Brummer) Danielson; baby brother Herbert, brothers Irwin Ardel, Delbourn, as well as sister Verna Johnson. She is also preceded in death by son Michael, who recently passed away while living in Phoenix, AZ.
A celebration of life-memorial service will be held, and interment will be at Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery for family to attend afterwards.
