It was a light week with just one game on the schedule for the Morris-Benson Area boys hockey team. The Storm played host to the Willmar Cardinals in Morris Dec. 12 and despite being tied 2-2 in the second period, MBA lost to the Cardinals 7-4.

The Storm struck first for a rare lead to start a game when Kye Suess scored off an assist from Hunter Westerman to make it 1-0. The Cardinals added two goals before the end of the first period to take a 2-1 advantage over MBA into the first intermission.

Once again, MBA struck first in the second period with a goal from Westerman to tie the game up at 2-2. Special teams were on display for nearly the rest of the second period. Willmar scored two power-play goals and even added a 5-on-3 shorthanded goal to take a 5-2 advantage over the Storm into the third period. 

Willmar put the game out of reach in the third period with two more goals to make it 7-2. The Storm did get back on the scoreboard with two goals 20 seconds apart from Chase Baker and Charlie Blume to make the final score 7-4.

Westerman led the team on offense with two total points, a goal and an assist. Suess, Baker and Blume all added a goal apiece.

Kason Helgenson was in net for the Storm and saved 29 of the 36 shots he faced for a .806 save percentage.

Next on the schedule for the Storm, they will be on the road to play Park Rapids Area Thursday, Dec. 18.
