Nicole Schmidt’s senior English class learned more about the newspaper business during a recent visit from Katie Erdman of the Stevens County Times. She described the various parts of a newspaper and answered questions. The students will now write an article for the newspaper about a subject that interests them. The class includes, in front from left to right: Alayh Minnick, James Mast, Gracy Erlandson, and Aliza Hubbard. Middle row: Avery Nohl, Karlee Koehl, Evelyn Serna, Isaac Messner, and Samuel Mar. Hootin’ for Homecoming

By Mishayla Mattson & Gracy Erlandson for Nicole Schmidt’s senior English class

Sunday, September 27, 2026, marked the beginning of and exciting week full of activities celebrating Hancock’s homecoming. The week started out with the senior, junior, sophomore, and freshmen girls participating in flag football. The teams consisted of senior and sophomore girls and junior and freshmen girls.

Yesterday, Monday, September 28, 2026, started out early for the senior class members. They arrived at the school practice field where as a class they watched the sunrise and had a potluck breakfast. The rest of the student body rolled right out of bed and arrived at school in their pajamas. That night at 7p.m. the coronation for King & Queen was held in the Hancock School gym.

Today, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the theme was costume day. Students wore all types of funny costumes. Tonight the volleyball team will go against Brooten Belgrade Elrosa in Hancock’s big gym.

On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the theme will be color day. Each class has a specific color to wear. The colors are as follows: preschool and kindergarten wear stripes and polka dots, 1st grade and 7th grades’ color is orange, 2nd grade and 8th grades’ color is green, 3rd grade and freshmen’s color is red, 4th grade and the sophomores’ color is blue, the 5th graders and juniors’ color is pink, the 6th graders and seniors’ color is black.

Wednesday night, powdertuff will be taking place in the big gym. This is a fun event where the boys in grades 9-12 will compete against each other and play volleyball.  This year there will also be one game against the staff.

On Thursday, October 1, 2026, the dress up theme is for students to dress up as their favorite holiday. On Thursday night, the girls’ volleyball team will play Ashby at home starting at 7pm in our big gym.

Friday, October 2, 2026, will be a day full of excitement! The day kicks off with a spirit day theme. The afternoon will include 7-12th grades competing against each other in the classic game of dodgeball. After the classes compete in dodgeball, there will be a Hancock parade starting at the school and finishing back at the school. The route will start on second street heading south, turn left onto Hancock Avenue, turn right onto Fairview Lane, turn right on to Washington Avenue, and turn right on to second Street. After the parade the students will go to the gym for the always entertaining pep fest this year planned by the seniors.

On Friday night the football boys will have a home game against Underwood at the Hancock football field. Senior homecoming candidate and Hancock football captain, Isaac Messner, said he is most looking forward to the football game on Friday night.

During halftime,  the homecoming queen and other candidates will ride around the field on golf carts if weather permits.

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, homecoming week will wrap up with a semi-formal homecoming dance for 9-12 graders from 7-11pm in the multipurpose gym at Hancock School. We hope everyone enjoys this fun week.
