MAHACA wrestling sends program-record five to AA State

The Morris Area / Hancock / Chokio-Alberta wrestling team is sending a program-record five wrestlers on to the Class AA State Individual Wrestling Tournament March 3 and 4, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Davin Rose (138) and Hunter Gibson (182) both won their respective weights at the Section 3AA tournament Saturday, Feb. 25, in Morris while Grayson Gibson (120), Caden Rose (152) and Brock Marty (220) all took second.

Tiger head coach Kyle Rose was ecstatic after the conclusion of the tournament.

“We’re sending five. Program record. That’s unreal,” Rose said. “Class 2A is the toughest class in the state and everybody knows it. The depth in Class 2A is unmatched by either single A or triple A.”

To put it in perspective, there are 64 teams in Class 3A and 79 in Class A. There are 95 teams in Class AA.

“So not only is Class AA a huge class, we’re also sending five kids out of an extremely tough section. Not the best, but it’s up there for sure,” Rose concluded. “The state kids take the cake but everyone in our line up had a great tournament.”
