Morris was the No. 1 seed in the North Central Junior Legion playoffs and rattled off three straight wins to advance to the finals. They took on No. 3 seed Spicer July 29, who they had just beat four days earlier in the semifinals. Morris once again took down Spicer 8-2 to be the North Central sub-district champions and punch their ticket to the State Tourney for the second straight season.
Morris 8
Spicer 2
The game started slowly for both teams on the offensive side of the ball. Both teams went through three innings and there were still no runs on the board. The 29ers finally broke the ice in the fourth inning when they scored one run.
Spicer came back a half an inning later with two runs of their own to take their first lead at 2-1. Morris did not stay behind for long and added four runs in the bottom of the fifth to go back ahead 5-2.
Three runs were not enough for the 29ers and they scored three more in the sixth for good measure to secure the 8-2 victory.
Morris outhit Spicer in the game 10-4. Ozzy Jerome led the team on offense, going 2 for 3 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI. Riley Asmus and Jack Kehoe both finished 2 for 3. Asmus added two runs and Kehoe had two RBI. Andrew Marty, Drew Huebner and Justin Giese all finished the game with one hit.
The combination of Landen Gibson and Alex Asmus on the mound was deadly for Morris. Gibson got the start and pitched five innings, allowing two runs off two hits and struck out six. Asmus threw the final two innings and allowed no runs off two hits and struck out two.
