Jessica Draper Huebner of Morris has been inducted into the Fergus Falls Sports Hall of Fame. She helped lead the Fergus Falls Community College Spartan women’s basketball team to the 2001 NJCAA Division III National Basketball Championship in New York state. She was named the National Tournament MVP.
Huebner was one of six inductees into the hall of fame during a noon luncheon and ceremony held Aug. 1 at the VFW in Fergus Falls. This was also the 40th anniversary of the Fergus Falls Sports Hall of Fame.
“The national championship remains my proudest achievement,” Huebner said. “Watching our Coach Ann Williams’ smile as our team hoisted the championship trophy is a memory I will cherish forever.”
The national women’s basketball tournament was held at Corning Community College in Corning, New York, halfway between Buffalo, New York, and New York City. In the title game, underdog Fergus Falls Community College defeated the Borough of Manhattan Community College, New York, 61-58.
“This really could be made into a movie,” said Huebner prior to her Aug. 1 induction into the Fergus Falls Sports Hall of Fame.
Huebner, at 5-feet-6 inches in height, played post against much taller opponents from Manhattan Community College. She was later inducted into the Fergus Falls Community College Hall of Fame as an individual in 2007-08 and again as a member of the 2001 National Championship basketball team in 2023.
As a Spartan athlete in Fergus Falls, she competed in volleyball, basketball and softball at the two-year community college. Huebner earned the Presidential Scholarship during her sophomore year.
Huebner is a 1999 graduate of Chokio-Alberta High School where she was a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball. She helped lead the girls basketball team to third place at the 1999 Minnesota State Tournament before attending Fergus Falls Community College from 1999 to 2001. Huebner was honored with several individual awards throughout her collegiate career.
She and her husband, Darick, live in Morris where they are grain farmers and own an insurance business. Huebner also serves as Vice President of Kleinman Property Management. She has managed apartment communities throughout the Twin Cities for the past 24 years, providing homes for more than 10,000 people.
They have four children: Drew, 20, Jonah, 18, Shea, 14, and Irelynn, 11. Drew and Jonah currently play NCAA Division II football, and all four of their children are three-sport athletes.
Huebner gives back to her community by volunteering as a basketball, baseball, volleyball and softball coach. She considers it a blessing to have been part of her children’s athletic journeys and continues to be their biggest fan from the stands.
