At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, the Morris Police Department sent out an alert about an unknown bomb threat at the Morris Area High School. According to a post on the Morris Area Parent Portal, the threat was written on a white board at the school.
Students were immediately evacuated to the Regional Fitness Center nearby and later bussed home. Students walked across the school parking lot and passed the water tower, to reach the RFC through a steady snowfall. Prior to leaving the school they were able to put on coats, boots, hats and mittens and take their backpacks.
They were then seated on the two gym floors at the RFC and remained with their teacher and class until busses arrived. Parents and guardians were asked to not come to the RFC for their children. The Morris Fire Department and Morris Police Department blocked off all entry to the area around the school while the threat could be checked out. School was cancelled for the remainder of the day.
