Owl girls move to 3-0

The Hancock Owl girls basketball team continued its winning streak to open the 2022-2023 season Saturday, Dec. 17, at New York Mills. After nearly 10 days without a game due to two games being postponed due to last week’s wintery weather, the Owls used three double digit scorers to edge out a four-point win over New York Mills 63-59, in New York Mills.

Kaitlyn Rohloff led the Owls with 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-7 beyond the arc and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. She also dished out seven assists and collected four steals.

Misti Zempel added 18 points on 7-of-11 from the floor with 15 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Zempel added three steals and a block defensively.

Kaitlyn Staples was back on the court after being out with injury for the first two games of the year. She finished with 12 points, five rebounds, a steal and three assists.

Autumn Hubbard, Isabel Rose and Brooke Versteeg rounded out the scoring with four, three and two points, respectively. Versteeg grabbed six rebounds before fouling out while Rose dished out three assists in the win.

The Owls, 3-0, continue their road season at Parkers Prairie Tuesday, Dec. 20 and at West Central Area Thursday, Dec. 22, in Barrett. Thursday’s game will mark the end of the 2022 portion of the season and they will open 2023 finally playing their first home game of the season, against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Jan. 3.
