Richard “Dick” Bluth

Memorial services for Richard “Dick” Bluth of Morris, Minnesota, will be held at First Lutheran Church in Morris on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Chris Richards will be officiating.

Dick was born in Gutches Grove, MN February 27, 1938, to Richard and Cele (Brick) Bluth.  Dick graduated from Montevideo High School in 1955.  After high school Dick enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in the Philippines.  He was honorably discharged in 1959.  He moved back to Bemidji, MN where he met and married Judy Paulson.  

Dick and Judy moved to Morris in 1963. Dick and his father built the A&W Drive-In.  Dick and Judy owned and operated the A&W until they sold it in 1965.  After this, Dick worked for the Chamber of Commerce until he was appointed Auditor/Treasurer of Stevens County in 1973 and served until his retirement in 1999.  

After retiring Dick fell in love with golfing and enjoyed spending time with his buddies, especially at the 19th hole.

Dick also had a love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Some of his favorite times were spent at the deer shack on the Mississippi River.  

Richard ‘Dick’ Bluth passed away at his home in Morris on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the age of 85

Dick is survived by his wife: Judy Bluth of Morris; one son:  Willie (Sandy) of Minneapolis; one daughter: Mary (Paul) of Baxter; four grandchildren: Chloe, Noah, Andrew, and Collin: one brother: Gary (Pat) Bluth of Baxter and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and beloved pets Leo, Boots, Perro, and Oliver the stray cat.

**Dick’s family is requesting that no flowers be sent to the memorial service (if one wishes to order flowers, give them to someone alive to enjoy them!), instead, please direct donations to Knute Nelson Hospice, The Stevens Co. Historical Society, Stevens Co. Food Shelf, Stevens Community Humane Society or a charity of your choice.  

Life was good.
