MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris volleyball program has announced the addition of Amber Zitzow as an assistant coach beginning with the upcoming 2021 season.
A long-time head coach at the junior college level here in Minnesota, Zitzow led the Rochester Community and Technical College program to a 187-41 record in eight seasons in charge. Included in that span was a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III national championship in 2015, third-place finishes in 2014 and 2018, and a fourth-place finish in 2019. She also coached nine NJCAA All-Americans, four American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Americans, and 72 NJCAA All-Academic recipients. In 2015, she was named NJCAA Division III National Coach of the Year and in 2019 she was the AVCA Two-Year College West Region Coach of the Year.
Prior to becoming head coach at RCTC, Zitzow was an assistant for four seasons with the program. Before that, she worked as an assistant coach at St. Charles High School, Rochester Mayo High School, and Wabasha-Kellogg High School. Along with that, she has been a Site Director and employee of the National Volleyball Center in Rochester since 2004.
“Cougar Volleyball will positively benefit from adding Coach Zitzow to our staff in many ways,” said Head Coach Joe Sussenguth. “With her success as a college head coach prior to coming to UMN Morris, she’s developed and demonstrated a solid foundation within skill, position and team training, as well as recruiting. She’s motivated to make a difference for our team on the court and knows how to support student-athletes off the court. I’m ecstatic that Coach Zitzow will be in our gym and on our sideline.”
The Cougars begin the 2021 season with a road match on September 1 at Bethel University. The home debut for Minnesota Morris is September 8 with a 6 p.m. match against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at Jim Gremmels Court.
