Twenty-nine participants between Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta and Hancock moved on from the Subsection 21 meet Thursday, May 31, at the Greg Deal Track and Field in Wheaton.
The top five individuals and top two relays from each event advance for sure with the chance for more based on time qualifications between the three subsections. Full Section 6A program here.
At subsections, the Morris/C-A boys finished second behind Sauk Centre and will advance 12 individuals and two relays to the Section 6A meet this week.
Kenny Soderberg and Ethan Lebrija both earned spots at the sections in three events each. Soderberg won both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles and finished fourth overall in the long jump. Lebrija finished first in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash and runner-up in the long jump event.
Joining them are Trey Hunt in the 200-meter dash and jump, Jack Tollefson, who won the 400-meter dash, Thomas Tiernan in the 1600-meter run, Gavin Stallman in 3200-meter run, Lewis Nohl in 300 hurdles, Aydan Schmidgall in high jump, Kaden Burns who won the pole vault, Noah Malek, Monte Fehr in discus and Evan Oberg in shot put.
The Tiger boys 4×100-meter relay of Soderberg, Derek Waldbeser, Hunt and Lebrija finished first in 45.02 and the 4×200-meter relay of Waldbeser, Schmidgall, Tollefson and Hunt finished second with a time of 1:38.28.
The Morris/C-A girls, who finished third behind champion Minnewaska and runner-up Osakis, had nine individuals and all four relays advance to the section meet.
Kaylie Raths advances in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles after two first-place showings. Lydia Fynboh finished first in the 100-meter dash in 13.15, and Claire Reed also had a first-place finish, clearing 7-06.
Along with those champions, the Tiger girls also send Isabel Guerra in the 400-meter run, Meredith Carrington in the 1600-meter run, Hailey Werk in the 3200-meter run, Alexis Motz and Olivia Lebrija in the 100-meter hurdles, and Maura Lamberty in the discus.
The 4×200-meter relay of Raths, Caryn Marty, Guerra, and Lebrija finished first with a time of 1:54.31. The 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800 all finished runner-up to advance to the section meet.
The Hancock track and field team advanced seven individuals. Sean Wilson is advancing in both the 400-meter run and 800-meter run after a third place and fifth place showing, respectively. Senior Jenna Kannegiesser finished in fifth place in both the 200-meter dash and long jump to qualify for the section meet.
Other Owls advancing include David Milander in the 200-meter dash, Jared Koehl and Karleigh Rohloff in the 400-meter dash, Isaac Nienhaus in long jump, and Jordan Hausmann in triple jump.
The Section 6A meet is scheduled for Thursday, June 10, in Fergus Falls. Field events begin at 11 a.m. with running events starting at noon.
