New faces in the pool with MSHSL pushing volleyball to spring

Emma Bowman, left, and Sydney Dietz, right swim at practice Thursday. Both are newcomers to the Gator girls swim and dive team this season.

The Morris / Minnewaska girls swimming and diving team added a handful of newcomers this fall season with the Minnesota State High School League pushing volleyball to spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Gators have 68 members on the roster this season.

The team is a cooperative sponsored between Morris Area, Chokio-Alberta, Hancock, and Minnewaska and Morris/C-A/Hancock has just under half of those participants at 32.

“We added a few more volleyball players to our roster,” Gator head coach Linda Hoffmann said. “I like the growth mindset of these girls to try something new and improve their skills. We live in a state with over 10,000 lakes. Everyone needs to be a stronger swimmer and this is a good way to do it.”
