The University of Minnesota Morris football and baseball programs have announced the hiring of Robert Purvin. Purvin will act as co-Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach for the Cougar football team and will also be an assistant coach with the baseball program.
In addition to that hire, the football team has also filled out the coaching staff for the upcoming 2021 season with the additions of Hunter Glenn and Sam Rolle. Glenn will be the Wide Receivers Coach and Rolle the Running Backs Coach in the year ahead.
Purvin joins Minnesota Morris after spending the past three seasons at Benedictine University, an NCAA Division III institution in Lisle, Ill. A 2016 graduate of Bethel College in Kansas with a degree in Health and Physical Education, Purvin was a two-year team captain and a student coach within that program before returning to the Chicago area where he worked as a strength & conditioning coach for a number of years. Joining the Benedictine staff in 2018, he coached the linebacking unit for the Eagles and assisted with recruiting efforts for the team. One of the linebackers from his tenure at Benedictine would earn Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Defensive MVP honors, as well as All-Region and All-American honors.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Purvin join the staff!” said Head Football Coach Marty Hoffmann. “He brings energy and passion to go along with his great experiences coaching defensive football.”
Glenn joins the Minnesota Morris staff after wrapping up a graduate assistantship at Wingate University, an NCAA Division II school in North Carolina. There, he coached wide receivers for two seasons, while also handling responsibilities with running backs and specialists for one season. A 2015 graduate of Presbyterian College with degrees in Business Administration and Management, Glenn was a student coach for all four years of his undergraduate career. Following his graduation, he spent a year on the staff of Greensboro College as a Tight Ends Coach, then spent two seasons at Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro, N.C. before going to Poland for three months in 2018 to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Lodz Wolves of the Polish League of American Football. Returning from Europe, he has since been at Wingate as he finishes off a Master’s degree.
“Coach Glenn comes highly recommended and we are so excited to have him on our staff!” said Hoffmann. “He will be a great asset to the program.”
Rolle is the final new hire for the Cougar football team. A 2018 graduate of Hastings College in Nebraska with a Sports Management degree, Rolle was a running back and fullback for the Broncos for four seasons. After completing his playing career, he spent another season with Hastings as a Running Backs and Tight Ends Coach. In 2020, he was a volunteer coach at the University of Central Oklahoma and was a Cornerbacks Coach for Edmond Memorial High School in Edmond, Okla. in the fall of that year.
“We’re excited to have such a great coach join the program!” Hoffmann said. “Coach Rolle will bring a lot to the running back position group as well as the program.”
