SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Morris swimming & diving team opened the three-day Augustana Invite on Thursday with preliminary swims in the morning and a pair of relays competing in the finals on Thursday night.
Starting off the day, Minnesota Morris took part in a number of preliminary swims. The 500 Freestyle was first and Jenna Gutterman had the sixth-fastest time in school history with a time of 5:37.97.
Later in the morning, Evan Westrum improved her PR in the 50 Freestyle and had the sixth-fastest time in school history, clocking a 25.72 in the sprint event. She later did the same in the 100 Butterfly, turning in the sixth-best time in program history with a 1:03.69. Morgan Ball had the 18th-best time for a Cougar swimmer in the same event, notching a 1:09.61.
In the evening, the Cougar 200 Medley Relay ‘A’ team of Ball, Westrum, Carolyn Curtis, and Lilly Radintz had a 2:04.15. The ‘B’ team of Abby Doyle, Paige Haugen, Gutterman, and Hannah Wellens were two spots back of them in 2:07.62.
The closing event of the night was the 800 Freestyle Relay. In that race, the Cougar ‘A’ team of Wellens, Westrum, Curtis, and Gutterman finished in 8:57.45 and the ‘B’ team of Haugen, Jalissa Johnson, Radintz, and Ball closed out in 9:03.08.
