The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area girls tennis team finished third in the West Central Conference after beating Benson/KMS 4-3 Thursday, Oct. 1, in Morris. The win came after a 7-0 blanking in the conference tournament opener against Minnewaska Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.
Against Benson/KMS, Katelyn Wehking was the lone singles player to earn a win at No. 2 singles. She dropped just one game against Elise Duncan in a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Thankfully that was all MACA/WCA needed as doubles swept Benson/KMS. The duos of Greta Hentges and Lakia Manka and KJ Nibbe and Hope Sperr won in straight sets whie Brynna Olson and Breanna Schmidgall used three sets to earn the team win for MACA/WCA.
The Tigers will look for a sweep of Benson/KMS when the two meet in the Section 6A opener at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Morris. The winner will likely play top-seeded Osakis Thursday, Oct. 8, in Osakis.
No individual section competition or state tournament will take place this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
