The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area girls tennis team opened the Section 3A team tournament with a win over No. 7-seeded MACCRAY Monday, Oct. 4, in Morris.
“It was a beautiful day to play tennis. The girls played really well yesterday. We haven’t been ranked this high in our section before so I was hoping the girls wouldn’t get anxious, but they maintained a strong mental game,” coach Britney House said of the No. 2-seeded Tigers.
The Tigers next play No. 3 Montevideo in the Section 3A semifinals Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Gustavus Adolphus indoor courts in St. Peter. No. 1 Luverne will play No. 5 Benson/KMS at 9 a.m. and the winner of both matches will meet for the Section 3A championship at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
In the regular season, the Tigers beat Montevideo 6-1, beat Benson/KMS 4-3 and fell 4-3 to Luverne.
“I think we can beat all three of these teams, but the girls will have to come out strong and maintain their strong mental games. Our teams are similar in ability so they can’t let up during their matches,” House added.
