UMM Sports Information
Seven Minnesota Morris Cougar student-athletes are being honored by the athletic department as annual athletic award winners for the Willis Kelly Award, Arnold Henjum Award, Honor Athletes, and Cougar Excellence Awards.
Willis Kelly Award
Presented to a senior female athlete who exemplifies the spirit of competition at Morris in women’s athletics, the award is in memory of Willis Kelly, physical education coach and athletic director at Morris for more than 20 years. She was the first director of women’s athletics in 1975 and served as director of men’s and women’s athletics from 1982 until her retirement in 1987. Recipients must earn a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average.

Cross Country/Track and Field 3 year team member:
– Had never been a part of Cross Country or Track and Field before college
– NCAA Regional Championship meet participant two out of three years
– Track & Field All Conference Team Member 2019
– Cross Country All Conference Sportsmanship Award,2019
Arnold Henjum Award
Presented to a senior male athlete on the basis of athletic excellence and integrity, the award honors Arnold Henjum, professor of education from 1964 to 1992, who made innumerable contributions to Minnesota public education. Recipients must earn a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average.

Majoring in Sports Management, 2 time Academic All Conference, Deans List Fall 2019
-School record holder in punt yards, punt attempts, fumbles returned for TD
-Top 10 all-time ranks: 3rd in fumble recovered, 3rd in total tackles, 3rd in solo tackles, 5th in INT’s
-UMN Morris Football Awards: 2x Team Captain, 2x Team MVP, 2019 Outstanding Offensive player, 2018 Outstanding Defensive player, 2x Outstanding Special Teams player,
-Upper Midwest Conference Awards: 2019 Special Teams Player of the Year, 2019 1st team All-UMAC, 2018 second team All-UMAC
-Played in the D3 Sr Classic all star game.
Honor Athlete Awards
Selected by a committee of coaches on the basis of academic and athletic achievement, recipients of the Men’s and Women’s Honor Athlete Awards have earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
CONGRATULATIONS – Brooke Lorentz
A Double Major: Mathematics and Psychology
A member of the Academic All-Conference team all four years. A member of the Dean’s list for every semester. Recipient of the Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship at UMN Morris.
Played and started in all 69 games in her collegiate soccer career. Ended her career with 20 goals and 17 assists. Helped lead the 2016 team to the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance with a goal in the UMAC Championship game. Once named to the All UMAC Second Team and once to the All UMAC Honorable Mention team. Has top 10 placements in 6 categories for a career in the women’s soccer record books as well as 2 top 5 career marks and 1 top 10 season record.
Competes for track and field as a distance runner. She completed the Boston Marathon and is currently training for additional marathons.
CONGRATULATIONS – Ryan Anderson
A Chemistry major
Dean’s list: Fall 2016, Fall 2017, Spring 2019, Academic All Conference award winner for cross country and track. Participates in the McNair Post-Baccalaureate Academic Achievement program, participated in two undergraduate faculty-led research projects.
– 1st team all-conference in cross country in 2018 & 2019
– 1st team all conference in track indoor 2017, outdoor 2018, indoor 2019, outdoor 2019,
– 3x conference champion in the mile and 1500. Track and field captain 2019 & 2020.
Cougar Excellence Awards
The Cougar Excellence Awards are awarded each year to fourth-year student-athlete who represent the best of Cougar Athletics: passion, dedication, athletic competitiveness, and academic engagement. Recipients have competed at the University of Minnesota Morris for a minimum of two years.
CONGRATULATIONS – Morgan Miller (tie)
A Secondary Education Social Studies/NAS major
2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 UMAC All-Academic
2019 1st Team All-Conference, 2018 Second Team All-Conference, 2017 First Team All- Conference, 2016 Honorable Mention All- Conference; 7th place in career kills, tied for 3rd in career attack efficiency; Rally scoring era leader in assist, solo and career blocks (2nd, 6th, 3rd overall in her career).
CONGRATULATIONS – Becca Holland (tie)
Majoring in Elementary Education
2 time UMAC Academic All Conf. for Basketball
Lead the UMAC in Assist/TO ratio in 2020 Basketball season and received the UMAC Sportsmanship award
2 time UMAC Academic All Conf. for Softball
Has represented UMM in over 200 competitions between her Basketball and Softball careers here. 2018 UMAC Honorable Mention for softball, Top 10 in UMM Record book for Career Batting Average.
