The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tiger boys swimming and diving team opened the season at the Uvaas Otter Invite Dec. 10, in Fergus Falls. The Tigers finished fourth overall.
“The 10 swimmers in attendance swam solid races. Several people swam in events or places they had not swum before. The boys really stepped up and did a great job,” second-year coach Michelle Just said.
Carter Pew finished runner-up with a personal best six-dive score of 151.5.
David Varga was runner-up in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:50.65. He also finished in fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:23.15.
Mauricio Obregon-Ibanez had a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:29.34. William Coler also had a fourth-place finish in the JV 50-yard butterfly with a time of 33.89.
Sam Just, William Coler, Paxton VanEps, Daytona Hober combined for a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome finished in a time of 1:52.79.
The Tigers continued their season by hosting Montevideo Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the Regional Fitness Center in Morris.
Pew was runner-up in diving with a score of 131.2.
The foursome of Isaac Just, Sam Just, David Varga and Daytona Hoberg finished third overall in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:14.64.
Coler had a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:25.35.
Varga finished third in the 200-yard IM in 2:52.78. He also claimed third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:21.74, a season best.
Matthew Gomer and Paxton VanEps finished in third and fourth overall in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.32 and 27.92, respectively. Gomer and Hoberg finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle event. Hoberg bested his seed time by over three seconds to finish in 1:00.62.
Montevideo won the dual and exhibitioned the final three events.
The Tigers continue their season at West Fargo Invite Saturday, Jan. 7.
