The MACA softball team started the season with 11 straight wins before losing their first game. Since then, the team has rattled off four straight conference wins to maintain their lead in the West Central Conference.
First, the Tigers avenged their only loss of the season with a 7-1 win on the road against Melrose May 6.
MACA then hosted the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters in Morris May 8 and pulled off an 11-2 win.
The very next day, the Tigers hosted Minnewaska Area in Morris for a doubleheader and swept the Lakers 7-1 and 10-0 to move to 15-1 on the season.
The team was back on the field May 13 at home against West Central Area. Next on the schedule for the Tigers will be a road contest against the BOLD Warriors Thursday, May 15.
MACA 7, Melrose 1
After the Tigers dropped their first game of the season against Melrose, MACA had a chance to avenge that loss with a game against the Dutchmen just five days after losing to them. The Tigers were able to exact some revenge on the field and came away with a 7-1 win over Melrose.
After a scoreless first inning, MACA opened up the scoring with three runs in the top of the second and added a single run in the third and fourth to open up a 5-0 advantage. The Dutchmen did score one run in the bottom of the fifth, but MACA finished off Melrose with two runs in the top of the seventh to make the final score 7-1.
Lauren Hottovy led the team on offense, going 3 for 4 with a double, a run, four RBI and a steal. Haley Kill also had multiple hits, finishing 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Kill pitched all seven innings for the Tigers and she allowed one run off five hits and struck out 10.
MACA 11, Sauk Centre 2
The Tigers earned another West Central Conference victory when they hosted the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters. The MACA defense and pitching was sharp as they ran away with an 11-2 win over the Streeters.
The Tigers started quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The score stayed locked at 3-0 until the Tigers opened up the game with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-0. Sauk Centre finally got on the board in the top of the fifth with two runs, but MACA got those runs back with one in the fifth and another in the sixth to make the final score 11-2.
Samantha Konz paced the Tigers on offense, finishing 3 for 4 with a double, two runs, three RBI and a steal. Nora Boyle also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI.
Haley Kill earned the win in the pitching circle. She pitched four perfect innings where she allowed no runs off no hits and 10 of the 12 outs were strikeouts.
MACA 7, Minnewaska 1
The Tiger kicked off their home doubleheader against the Minnewaska Lakers off with a win. MACA trailed early in the game, but were still able to cruise their way to a 7-1 win over the Lakers.
Minnewaska won the race to the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Tigers answered quickly with three runs of their own in the top of the third to take a 3-1 advantage. The Tigers added another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to make the final score 7-1.
Hottovy, Brenna Jergenson and Harmony Coverdale led the Tigers on offense, all finishing with two hits. Hottovy went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs, an RBI, a walk and two steals. Jergenson finished 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Coverdale was 2 for 3 with a run and a walk.
Kill pitched all seven innings for the Tigers and allowed one run off three hits and struck out 14.
MACA 10, Minnewaska 0
The Tigers were easily able to complete the sweep of the Lakers and needed just four and a half innings to take down the Lakers 10-0.
MACA started slowly with a run in the bottom of the first inning. They added to the lead with three runs in the second and went off for six runs in the third to take a 10-0 advantage. The Tigers kept the Lakers off the scoreboard for the rest of the game and completed the 10-run win in four and a half innings.
Samantha Konz led the team on offense, going a perfect 3 for 3 with a triple, a double and four RBI.
Boyle pitched the entire game and allowed no runs off three hits and struck out two.
