Yanez wins state title at NYWA girls state tournament

With the increased popularity girls wrestling has gained over the past couple of years, the Northland Youth Wrestling Association had plenty of girls compete across the region and held the state tournament in Rochester March 29-30. MAHACA youth wrestling’s Laylona Yanez competed in the tournament and was able to take home the top prize by finishing first in her weight class.

On Friday she competed for the team and won all three of her matches. Saturday was individual competition and she had a 3-0 day once again to finish in first place.

Yanez set an example for all MAHACA girls who are interested in wrestling by becoming the first girl in program history to earn a state title.
